The Taverna, Organic Cretan Restaurant

A unique culinary experience



On a hill near Rethymnon with vine yards and olive trees overlooking the infinite sea, don't miss a culinary experience, tasting diverse seasonal dishes based on the fruits of the land and the legendary nutritional Cretan cuisine.

 

In the Agreco Taverna & “Antikristo Restaurant” you will taste the very best of traditional Cretan cuisine.  Only fresh, organic farm produce is used in the menu and the preparation is done entirely in the farm kitchens.

Start your visit early in the afternoon, one-hour before the sunset, to enjoy a guided farm tour around the estate. Then, enjoy the daily set-menu dinner comprising of 30 different tastes which vary according to the season and availability of produce: Curd cheese, pickled wild artichokes, quail, stuffed courgette flowers are just some of the seasonal specialities.

Enjoy the beautiful view, relax in natural surroundings, drink Greek coffee, raki or wine with Cretan meze and taste traditional food a la carte until 16:00. The Farm Tour starts at 18:30 (50 min. duration) that is followed by a feast that varies each season and the dinner in one of our organic award-winning restaurants: “Αgreco Cretan Restaurant” or “Antikristo Cretan BBQ” restaurant.

There is no other place in Greece where you can taste home-made grandma’s traditional Cretan food cooked with the land’s local products and applying the rules of the nutritious Cretan cuisine. The set-menu dinner comprises 33 different tastes which vary according to the season and availability of produce with a use of use pure ingredients of high quality, local aromatic herbs and spices, delicious combinations that make the Cretan diet so beneficial.

“Antikristo Cretan BBQ” Creative Cretan Cuisine
Antikristo is a traditional technique of cooking meat on mountainous Crete. A young lamb is cut into four pieces (called goulidia), salted, then placed on big wooden skewers that are arranged
around the fire in a circular formation, taking into consideration the direction of the wind, the intensity of the fire, and the distance between the fire and the meat.
This process lets the meat cook in its own fat and salt with the heat coming from the flames instead of coals. The name antikristo means across the fire, describing this unique technique. The meat is slowly cooked, sometimes up to 6 hours, and it develops different flavors in the process.


The Agreco Taverna & “Antikristo Restaurant” is open from May to October.
